Statigram: Instagram on the Desktop

In my first post about Instagram, I talked about how its only downfall was that it could only be used on the iPhone (or 4th Gen iPod Touch). Well, Statigram changes this, and does a fairly good job at it. Statigr.am is a website that lets you access everything – from a computer – that you can get to on Instagram, plus a little more. It has a very nice interface, and is elegantly easy to navigate. The only feature it lacks is the actual ability to upload new photos, which is not too big of a deal, considering the main use for this website is to have a bigger, more complete way to view yours and your friends’ photos.

Sadly, for those of you who are iPad owners only, there is still not much for you. You can, of course, access Statigram via Safari, but there is still no way to upload photos other than the iPhone app. But this isn’t Statigram’s fault. I’m not sure why, with Instagram’s popularity growing so quickly, they still haven’t developed a native iPad app. I’m willing to bet that there is one on the way, but that is just a hunch. For now, hold on, you iPad owners. A mixture of the iPhone based Instagram app and Statigram on the web will have to hold you over. I applaud your patience! Keep on apping!

More On Instagram

Instagram has fast become one of my favorite apps. It makes taking photos addictive. I want to just keep taking them and taking them! It is also fun to go to the Popular page and see some of the crazy pictures that are there. Some of them will really blow your mind! This app has a certain atmosphere about it that makes you want to stay on it. The reason is probably that there are so many different things to look at, all pleasing to the eyes. This app is a must have for every iPhone owner, simple as that. If you have it, and you would like to, follow me! My username is AppAndrew. What a surprise. Keep on apping!

Instagram: A Great App, With One Missing Piece

20110721-112725.jpg

Many, MANY people like taking photos. The problem is, in order to take good ones, you need a good camera and optionally some editing software. Instagram provides the solution to this problem. It is a very simple, easy to use app that combines photography with socializing. You can also add some very pleasing filters to your photos right in the app. With this app, you can create great photos right on your iPhone and share them to everyone who follows you on Instagram. As far as the social aspect goes, you can search for people, or find them via Facebook, Twitter, or your contacts list. You can also like and comment on photos that others have uploaded. When you look at someone’s profile, you see how many photos they have uploaded, who follows them, and who they follow. It’s all very efficient. All in all, Instagram is a simple yet satisfying app that lets you take, edit, and share photos, all with a couple taps.

So what’s this big missing piece?

Instagram is not a universal app. Now for all you iPhone-only owners out there, this doesn’t mean anything. But for those of us who would like the same great service on our iPads, especially those who only have iPads, we must either deal with the tiny, iPhone sized screen, or not use Instagram at all. It is quite a letdown, considering the quality of the app. I think that even though this is a major annoyance, it is worth it to get Instagram on your iPad and deal with the drastically reduced screen size. For all you iPhone users, do you enjoy Instagram? For those of you on iPads, does the quality of the service outweigh the drawback of the screen size? Keep on apping!
